Artist Statement

Everything has a face -- whether it's a rock or a person -- and it's left up to the viewer to decide what that face is saying. As a portrait artist I can only illustrate what I can see based on my own personal influences, dreams, failings, and prejudices. I can choose to paint someone happy or sad; to tell the truth or to tell a lie; or reveal the deepest secret or release the greatest fear; all translated by my own personal dictionary. With my art, I invite
that viewer into my perceptions of reality, testing the boundaries of social norms as well as the boundaries of my own understanding. I hide the bitter among the colors and the laughter among the panels of the floating canvas; sharing a hidden truth or a private joke with the viewer willing to search within the mundane.
